The Griffin - a progress update
(May 2010)
Since its inception, 4 years ago, we have been working hard to produce the ultimate affordable bat detector, with all of the facilities that a professional bat worker might need to record bats and their activity.
Last year, we found one of the best audio software designers around, who has been able to understand the complexities of what we need and with several major hardware changes we have come up with a design that is much more powerful than the original concept.
The 4th revision of motherboard is now ready for assembly at our sub-contractors who are waiting for the go-ahead to start production. Before this can happen we have to test and de-bug the software on the new board, which should take about 14 days. After this, the production build can begin. A further 3-4 weeks should see units in stock.
In the meantime we are working flat out to source all of the components needed for the build. Unfortunately, the recession caused a production slowdown in the far-eastern factories, resulting in long lead times for some components.
Part of the new design has been to allow new firmware updates to be user installed, via a compact flash card. This means that when the unit is released there will be new updates available for the first few months. Consequently, you will be able to feed back any suggestions that you might have as to the functioning of the unit, for us to consider.
Be assured that we know that many of you have been waiting for a long time for the Griffin to be launched and we are doing our level best to get it to market as soon as possible. As soon as we can give a launch date for the Griffin, we will post it here.
Thank you for your patience.
